Factory "V.P." Signed, Game Scene Engraved and Gold Inlaid Gebruder Merkel Model 147E Double Barrel Shotgun
Built with blued Krupp steel chopperlump barrels featuring a single bead sight on the matted concave solid rib, standard markings, 1998-dated German proofs on the flats, choke constrictions of .003/.009 inches, and 3‑inch chambers with automatic ejectors. The barrels are mated to a coin-finished boxlock action displaying light scroll engraving surrounding a pair of gold-inlaid game bird scenes depicting a trio of quail on the left and a pair of mallards on the right. The engraving is signed on the left of the action “VP.” for the engraver who executed the work.
The gun features bushed firing pins, cocking indicators, double triggers, and a tang-mounted automatic safety. It is fitted with a beautifully figured, multi-point checkered forend with engraved forend iron and a straight grip stock with leather-covered recoil pad.
Stock measurements: drop at comb 1 1/2 inches; drop at heel 2 3/8 inches; length of pull 14 7/16 inches; weight 6 lbs. 9 oz.
Excellent overall, retaining 99% original blue, coin, and gold finishes with minor handling evidence, small patch of light spotting on the right barrel, and sharp checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent.
