Outstanding Marlin Model 1893 Lever Action Takedown Rifle in Desirable .38-55 W.C.F. with Factory Letter

$ 16999.99

A standout collectible for discerning firearms enthusiasts, this Marlin Model 1893 lever-action rifle, manufactured in 1903, is a rare and exceptional find, especially in this remarkable condition. Chambered in the desirable .38-55 W.C.F. cartridge, it represents one of the iconic rifles of the American frontier and western expansion, treasured by ranchers, hunters, and lawmen for its rugged reliability and powerful performance. While the Model 1893 enjoyed tremendous popularity, with up to a million produced before its discontinuation in 1935, few standard, non-deluxe “working gun” examples have survived in such outstanding preservation due to their long, hard use in the field. This rifle is accompanied by a factory letter confirming its original .38-55 chambering, 26-inch octagon barrel, and sought-after takedown configuration, as shipped on November 3, 1903. Classic features include the two-line Marlin barrel address and patent dates ending in 1893, “Special Smokeless Steel” marking, “38-55” caliber stamp at the breech, and “Marlin Safety” marking atop the frame, with the model on the upper tang and serial number on the bottom. Its “Rocky Mountain” sight set includes a German silver blade front sight, an elevation-adjustable buckhorn rear sight, and an upper tang drilled and tapped for a peep sight. The smooth forearm and straight grip stock with crescent buttplate complete the look of true Americana. As one of the finest standard Model 1893s offered by Rock Island Auction Company, this piece combines historical authenticity, rarity in high condition, and investment-worthy appeal, making it an extraordinary addition to any serious lever-action or antique firearm collection.

Condition

Excellent, retains 97% plus of the original blue finish with some very light edge wear and a few scattered light scratches. 95% plus of the vibrant original case colors remain with mild thinning on portions of the lever and buttplate. The wood is also excellent with some scattered very light dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent. One would search a long time to find a finer example of a Marlin Model 1893 takedown rifle!
