Attractive Engraved Colt First Series Woodsman Sport Semi-Automatic Pistol with Factory Letter and Austin Texas Marked Tooled Leather Holster

$ 7499.99

A highly collectible pre-war Colt Woodsman manufactured in 1940, this .22 caliber pistol is especially appealing thanks to its included factory letter, which confirms it was shipped with a 4 1/2-inch barrel, blue finish, adjustable rear sight, and no grip type listed, in a single shipment to Wm. O. Lischange in Syracuse, New York, on October 22, 1940. This classic Colt features an elevation-adjustable blade front sight and adjustable notch rear sight, the two-line Colt address and patent dates roll-marked on the left side of the barrel, “THE WOODSMAN” marking on the left side of the frame, Colt “T” over “triangle/VP” factory proofs on the left of the trigger guard, “23” on the right of the trigger guard, and the caliber designation with the Rampant Colt on the left side of the slide. Adding significant collector interest and visual appeal, the barrel, slide, and frame display over 50% coverage floral custom scroll engraving with punch-dot backgrounds, giving this already desirable pre-war Woodsman a distinctive presentation-grade look. It is fitted with attractive “single-diamond” checkered walnut grips and includes a blued magazine marked “CAL.22/COLT” on the base. Also included is a tooled black leather holster marked “A.W. BRILL/MAKER/AUSTIN,TEX,” a desirable accessory in its own right. With factory-documented provenance, 1940 pre-war production, classic Colt markings, custom engraving, and a period-style marked leather holster, this Woodsman stands out as an excellent acquisition for the Colt collector or anyone seeking a historically significant and visually distinctive rimfire pistol.

Condition

Very fine as custom embellished, retaining 95% plus blue finish with plum coloration to the slide, some scattered minor handling marks and scratches, clear markings, and crisp engravings. The grips are excellent with mostly crisp checkering and attractive age darkening. Mechanically excellent. The holster is very fine.
