Outstanding Antique Marlin Model 1894 Lever Action Takedown Rifle with Factory Letter

$ 23499.99

This Marlin Model 1894 takedown rifle shipped on October 4, 1894, is a remarkable example of 19th-century craftsmanship. With a 24-inch octagon barrel in .38 caliber, it’s a versatile, durable “working gun” that’s surprisingly well-preserved for its age. The takedown design adds to its portability and ease of maintenance.

The rifle features a German silver blade front sight, an elevation-adjustable rear sight, and a vibrant casehardened receiver marked with “MARLIN SAFETY” and “MODEL/1894” on the upper tang. The walnut forearm and straight grip stock are in excellent condition, fitted with a casehardened crescent buttplate. The barrel is stamped with the Marlin legend and caliber designation “38-W.”

Given its rare condition and historical documentation, this rifle is a standout piece for any lever-action collection.

Condition

This Marlin Model 1894 takedown rifle is in excellent condition, retaining over 98% of its original blue finish on the barrel and magazine, with only slight thinning in some areas. The receiver displays 95% of its vivid original case colors, while the hammer, lever, takedown collar, and buttplate maintain 85% of their original case colors.

The wood is very fine, showing only a shallow divot on the right side of the wrist and some minor handling marks, but still retains most of its original varnish. Mechanically, the rifle is excellent.
