Job Title: Firearms Trainer
Position Overview:
The Firearms Trainer is responsible for providing safe, professional, and engaging firearms instruction to students of varying skill levels. This role includes, but is not limited to, planning and delivering training courses, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, and always maintaining a safe training environment. The ideal candidate has extensive firearms knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a passion for teaching responsible gun ownership and handling.
Key Responsibilities (including but are not limited to):
- Conduct classroom and live-fire training sessions in accordance with curriculum standards.
- Teach safe handling, storage, operation, and maintenance of firearms.
- Provide instruction on marksmanship, defensive shooting techniques, and situational awareness.
- Adapt training methods to suit students with different experience levels and learning styles.
- Ensure strict adherence to all safety protocols and range rules.
- Maintain accurate training records, certifications, and student progress reports.
- Assist in developing training materials and course outlines.
- Inspect and maintain training equipment, targets, and firearms used in courses.
- Stay current on firearms laws, trends, and training best practices.
- Deliver exceptional customer service and represent the organization professionally.
Qualifications:
- Prior experience as a firearms instructor, military, or law enforcement background preferred.
- Current firearms instructor certifications (e.g., NRA, USCCA, POST, state-level instructor credentials).
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local firearms laws.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle safety-critical situations.
- Commitment to professionalism, integrity, and safety at all times.
- Must pass a background check and drug test.
- Must meet all legal requirements to handle firearms.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Work Environment:
- Classroom and live-fire range settings.
- May require evenings, weekends, or travel for specialized training events.
