Important ATF Suppressor Update

Effective October 9, 2026

ATF announced significant changes to its enforcement of National Firearms Act requirements for suppressors.

What Changed?

• ATF will no longer enforce certain NFA application and preapproval requirements for suppressors.
• Federal NFA registration and tax-stamp requirements are included in the new nonenforcement guidance.

What Still Applies?

• ATF Form 4473 for applicable dealer transfers
• Required NICS background checks
• Federal Gun Control Act requirements
• Applicable state and local laws
