Metrotech M60 Belt Fed General Purpose Machine Gun, Class III/NFA Fully Transferable Machine Gun, with Accessories
This M60 machine gun is an impressive collector-grade example of one of the most iconic general-purpose machine guns of the modern era, manufactured with a new-made, registered receiver box and assembled using a mix of commercial and military surplus components. Developed in the late 1950s, the M60 was created as a true general-purpose machine gun, intended to replace multiple .30 caliber machine guns then in U.S. Army service, and it went on to become the chief infantry machine gun of the Vietnam War while also serving in numerous air, ground, and water vehicle-mounted roles. Although later designs began filling the infantry role from the 1980s onward, the M60 has remained a front-line automatic weapon with American and allied armed forces, giving this example strong historical and military-collectible appeal. The barrel is fitted with a fixed blade front sight, bird cage flash hider, and folding bipod, while the trunnion includes the rear sight, quick-release latch, and a mounting base for a carry handle, though the carry handle is absent. It also features a ribbed plastic forearm with a ventilated metal heat shield, maker’s marks on the underside of the receiver box, a ribbed pistol grip, right-handed selector switch, plastic-covered top cover, and a ribbed plastic buttstock with flip-up shoulder rest. Included with the lot are a folding tripod with T&E mechanism included but front pintle adapter absent, an ammo box holder that is not compatible with the M60 or the tripod, and three sealed “repack kits” containing belt links, cardboard liners, and canvas bandoliers. With its registered receiver, recognizable Vietnam-era profile, military surplus component mix, and included accessories, this M60 offers significant appeal for advanced machine gun collectors, military historians, and buyers seeking a centerpiece firearm with enduring historical importance and investment potential.
Very fine overall, with 90% plus Metrotech applied matte black phosphate finish (see above), showing some small areas of shallow pitting, minor spotting and light handling marks. The top cover and heat shield show flaking and wear, with a number of dents on the former. The military surplus components have been refinished, with the trunnion showing evidence of being cut and rewelded. The furniture is very good, with minor scuffs and dings overall and a loose fit to the forearm. Mechanically excellent. NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 479.
