Engraved Alexander Henry & Co. Sidelock Ejector Double Rifle in .30-30 Winchester with Case
This exquisite double rifle, originally completed as a .450-400 black powder express rifle on August 9, 1902, has been thoughtfully converted to the rare and highly collectible .30-30 Winchester caliber. The replacement barrels, crafted from high-quality Bohler Rasant steel, feature a beaded blade front sight and a two-leaf rear sight arrangement on a smooth flat solid rib—one leaf fixed standing, the other folding for versatility. Light engraving decorates the breech area, with the prominent “DANl. FRASER & Co.” signature on the short rib and an import mark beneath the forend. Birmingham proof marks dated 1997 attest to the barrels’ modern manufacture and proofing, and the chambers are equipped with automatic ejectors for rapid unloading.
The barrels are fitted to a beautifully finished casehardened Rogers patent sidelock action, displaying classic scroll engraving framed by a rope border, with “ALEXh. HENRY & Co.” signatures elegantly inlaid on each lockplate. The action features a mix of niter blued and bright pins, bushed firing pins, double triggers for precise shot control, and a tang-mounted automatic safety for secure handling.
The rifle’s furniture includes a replacement, finely figured splinter forend with multi-point checkering and engraved fittings, incorporating an Anson button release for quick removal. The pistol grip stock is of striking design with teardrop carved drop points, a horn grip cap, a shadowline cheekpiece, and a blank gold inscription oval on the right side. The stock is finished with a black serrated buttplate, completing the elegant appearance.
Included is a modern goat skin leather takedown case bearing “M. L./SCARDROY” on the lid, containing two nickel oilers and essential cleaning tools. The rifle measures a length of pull of 14 13/16 inches and weighs a balanced 8 pounds 2 ounces, making it a highly desirable blend of classic craftsmanship and practical modern upgrade.
Very fine as professionally refurbished, retaining 99% black finish on the barrels, triggerguard bow, and toplever, 95% plus vivid case colors, and minor handling evidence, a small crack at the rear of the left lockplate, and sharp checkering on the stock and forend. Mechanically excellent. The case is very fine. A great opportunity to own a classic English double rifle in a distinctly American caliber!
