Winchester Model 1892 Lever Action Saddle Ring Carbine

This excellent Winchester Model 92 saddle ring carbine, manufactured in 1923, is a superb example of a firearm that bridged the traditions of the Old West with the emerging 20th century. The Model 1892, designed as the successor to the famed Model 1873, gained widespread popularity largely due to its chamberings in many of the same calibers as the iconic Colt Single Action Army revolver. This commonality allowed frontiersmen and settlers to conveniently carry both a rifle or carbine and a sidearm using the same ammunition, a practical advantage that helped sustain the Model 1892’s relevance well into the modern era.

The rifle features standard Winchester factory oval proofs on the barrel and receiver near the breech, a marking practice introduced in 1905. The barrel’s upper left side bears the classic two-line Winchester address and patent dates, with caliber markings located at the breech. The upper tang carries the three-line model designation and trademark, while the serial number is stamped on the bottom of the receiver.

For sights, it is equipped with a pinned blade front sight showing some period silver solder on the rear face, paired with a folding ladder rear sight. The left side of the receiver is fitted with a functional saddle ring for ease of carry. The stock consists of a smooth forearm featuring three small carved tally marks on the left side and a straight grip stock capped with a carbine buttplate.

This Model 92 saddle ring carbine represents a rugged, historically important working firearm that, thanks to its condition and provenance, remains a highly desirable collector’s piece today.
