Rare Factory Original Fully Transferable Heckler & Koch MP5A2 Submachine Gun, Class III/NFA Fully Transferable Machine Gun

$ 94999.99

Manufactured in 1984, this Heckler & Koch MP5 represents one of the most iconic and collectible close-combat firearms of the late 20th century, a true pistol-caliber member of H&K’s renowned roller-delayed operating system family, prized for its closed-bolt accuracy, ergonomic handling, selective-fire capability, reliability, portability, and straightforward maintenance. First released in 1966, the MP5 was adopted by numerous military, police, protective, and elite “operator” units through the 1960s and 1970s, then achieved worldwide fame in 1980 when the British Special Air Service used MP5s during the televised Iranian Embassy hostage rescue, cementing the model’s legendary status; it later became a defining symbol of professional firepower in 1980s and 1990s films, television, and video games, from SWAT and military portrayals to Hans Gruber’s team in Die Hard. Its relevance continues even as modern personal defense weapons and compact rifles in calibers such as 5.56mm and 300 Blackout have entered the field, making original MP5s especially desirable to collectors. This example is particularly noteworthy in light of the 2024 BATFE determination that certain NFA items imported for authorized agency use between 1968 and 1986, previously treated as limited sales samples, should be considered fully transferable firearms, with an estimated 1,200 items affected and an unknown number being MP5s. It features traditional hooded post front and four-position drum rear sights, a birdcage flash hider mounted on the unthreaded three-lug muzzle, and an “IE LD” and “eagle/N” marked barrel. The receiver is marked “HK MP5” with no evidence of an “HK94” marking being removed and replaced, and it retains the serial number, “Ulm antler,” and date code on top of the receiver, along with the HK Chantilly, Virginia address on the right side of the magazine well. The forearm has been upgraded with a Knight’s Armament Rail Adapter System with rail sections on the sides and bottom and three rail protectors installed. The receiver is the desirable traditional “pin” pattern with a functional paddle magazine release, showing no evidence of a removed “shelf” block, no later-added pin hole, and no SOT manufacturer marks in the usual hidden locations. It is fitted with an A2-profile fixed buttstock and an ambidextrous trigger housing with pictographic markings for full-auto, three-round burst, semi-auto, and safe. Internally, the pin-pattern trigger pack matches the external markings and includes an ambidextrous selector switch; the bolt is marked “ID 201,” the bolt carrier is marked “IE” for 1984, and the carrier retains a factory-original sear trip with no evidence of welding, grinding, or other modification. One magazine with AWB-era restriction markings is included, completing a historically important, highly desirable MP5 with exceptional collector appeal and strong investment interest.

Condition

Excellent, with 95% of the original matte black finish, showing a number of light scuffs and scratches appropriate to a well maintained but actively used service weapon, in particular scuffs from installing an accessory rail on the receiver and wear around the magazine well. The furniture is also excellent, with light scuffs and scratches. Mechanically excellent. NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 479.
